Welcome Dr. Vanesa!

Elim is excited to announce that Dr. Vanesa Scott-Thompson has begun her role as Elim’s new Vice President of Program this month!
Our Vice President of Program is responsible for the support and encouragement of Elim’s program leaders – of our Adult Services, School, and Learning program. Dr. Vanesa will work to promote programmatic standards and create an organizational culture of best practices. At its heart, this position is about equipping people with disabilities and the communities that support them to reach their full potential. As a result, Dr. Vanesa is committed to lead in alignment with Elim’s strategic vision, mission, and our core values.
For the last 19 years, Dr. Vanesa has been in the field of education. She’s taught, coached, and been an assistant principal and principal for all grades. She has also been a coordinator and assistant director in higher education. As she has maintained her roots in the Chicagoland area, she values the communities she has been blessed to be a part of.
Dr. Bill Lodewyk speaks on behalf of Elim’s leadership team in saying that “We are very excited to have Dr. Vanesa joining Elim as Vice President of Program. She comes to Elim with a passion to services, and a proven track record of visionary leadership and people building. She has a strong commitment to Elim’s mission and vision, and we are excited to see how God will use her leadership and passion to accomplish His purposes at Elim.”
Dr. Vanesa reflects on her leadership style as one with an intent to build community, and develop strategy. She believes “When you build community, especially while working in education, you really have to have everyone on the same page of the vision and the mission of the organization.”
As Elim looks ahead, there are many opportunities that await. We know that Dr. Vanesa is ready to lead us into these opportunities.
Dr. Vanesa shared, “It doesn’t happen often, but I believe that God has led me to this position with Elim. I realized that my entire career has been working towards this transition and that I am called to do my part in ensuring that people who have different abilities have all of the care and opportunities they deserve.”
