When Morgan started at Elim she had severe sensory issues and no effective way to communicate. This was really challenging not only for Morgan but for her family as well.
Morgan’s speech therapist worked hard to come up with different ways to help Morgan effectively communicate, including increased verbal language, iPad communication, and body language. Now she can communicate her wants and her needs without getting frustrated.
Her occupational therapist also works tirelessly to help decrease Morgan’s sensitivity, which also helped lower her anxiety, allowing Morgan to be more comfortable in her environment.
Morgan sometimes is challenged by multi-step processes, and tying shoes involves a variety of steps. But with the help of her therapists, they broke it down into various smaller steps. Morgan would continuously practice that one step, then once she completed it, she would add another. It took her some time to complete the process from start to finish but with a lot of patience and persistence, Morgan was able to complete this life skill!
Every single day at Elim, we get to witness miracles large and small. But every one of them is worth celebrating. Morgan wouldn’t have the help of Elim and all her wonderful therapists without your support.
