All About the 5K!

April 7, 2025

The Elim Eagles’ Wings Run, Walk, and Roll 5K is just around the corner! We interviewed Claire Callahan, an occupational therapist at Elim and the committee chair for the 5K, about the event and the exciting new things you can expect to see!

When is this year’s 5K?

This year’s 5K will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, with a 9 AM start time.

What is the 5K fundraising for?

The funds we receive go directly to purchase objects, materials, equipment, toys, etc., which benefits all students and adult participants we work with. Last year, we bought adaptive toys, including switches, sensory materials such as chewies and fidgets, adaptive seating options, board games, new iPads/devices, mats, dividers, and more!

How involved are Elim staff members in planning the 5K?

A committee of dedicated Elim staff members primarily plans the 5K. They attend meetings, present ideas, organize fundraisers within the school, and reach out to local businesses to help raise awareness and funds. They are also hands-on during the event to ensure everything is running smoothly. The best part is that this is completely volunteer based! The 5K committee sees the valueof the Elim Eagles’ Wings 5K and is passionate about continuing the tradition. At the event itself, you will see a lot of Elim staff and their families participating!

Is there anything new happening at this year’s 5K?

This year, we have changed the course route to allow the start/finish line to be closer to the courtyard, where our check-in, Kids’ Corner, food, coffee cart, and DJ are all located. We have also included community members in our planning process this year! They will actively participate in spreading the word about our event and presenting new ideas.

Why should the Elim community sign up for the 5K?

The 5K is a great community event that helps raise funds for the necessary materials for all of Elim’s students and adults. We hope to see you at the starting line on Saturday, May 3rd!
