Teamwork can make anything possible – just ask Bob B. and Bob H.
This year, both Bobs celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Elim Eagles boys basketball team winning first place in the Illinois Special Olympics State Championship.
Initially, the Eagles team started playing against other local Christian schools in the Chicagoland area. But in 1980, they took to Soldier Field to compete in the city-wide Special Olympics, with the basketball team taking gold!
In 1984, the boys’ team continued their winning streak and reached the Illinois State Special Olympics Championship.
“I felt very nervous but excited,” says Bob H. He played the position of guard, and his main job was to protect the forward, which was Bob B.
“We were being destroyed at halftime,” recalls Bob B., “but then things got exciting.”
Both Bobs played integral roles in the team’s championship victory. Bob H. made a long shot across the court to one of his teammates, who then passed the ball to Bob B., who made the game-winning shot, securing the victory for the Elim Eagles.
The game was a nail-biter, with the final score being 63 – 62.
It was a moment of triumph for the boys on Elim’s basketball team and a testament to their teamwork, determination, and God’s blessings.
Because of your generosity, adults like Bob and Bob receive the tools and resources that they need to thrive. Can you give today and equip over 400 students and adults at Elim to pursue their God-given potential?
